How to help someone who may be experiencing abuse

If you have a friend, family member, colleague or neighbour who you believe may be experiencing domestic violence, there are many ways you can support them:

  • Talk to her about your concerns
  • Support without judgment, and respect her choice
  • Let her know you believe her and are here to support her
  • It is important to understand that she may be afraid or not ready to take the next steps
  • You can call the Halton Women’s Place 24-Hour Crisis/Support/Information Line and speak to a Crisis Intervention Counsellor, who can provide support, information, and resources
  • You can support her by creating a safety plan
  • Visit the Neighbours, Friends and Families website for more information
