Our Volunteer Opportunities are:

Auction & Golf Tournament Planning Committees

These committees are the driving force for the two largest fundraisers at Halton Women's Place. Our Auction committee meets at a minimum monthly from September until February with the event held the first Saturday in March. Our Golf committee meets bi-weekly from March until June, the event is held the first Thursday in June. Our committee members, for both committees, help us sell tickets, solicit sponsorships / donations and help us publicize these events.

Front Line Volunteers

Assist our Crisis Intervention Counsellors by providing reception assistance in our Intake office. This position is needed in both our North and South locations. Duties include: answering phones, greeting the public, receiving donations, documenting calls and maintaining client confidentiality.

Child & Youth Volunteers

Assists the youth (toddlers to teens) in the shelter and makes their time spent here a little brighter. This position is needed in both our North and South locations. During the day this position involves assisting our Child and Youth Counsellors with their programming. In the evening, volunteers plan and implement an activity (ie. Crafts) for those in the shelter.

Home Work Club

This club is available to youth in both shelters from October until May. Meeting two nights a week in both our North and South location, volunteers (in pairs) assist the youth in the shelter with their homework. This is a great way to instill good homework habits for the children in the shelter.

Special Event Volunteers

Assist us in various ways at events held for Halton Women's Place throughout Halton Region. These events range from golf tournaments to community tables at events, duties vary from selling raffle tickets to monitoring auction tables, etc. We have a wide variety of events during the year.

Administrative Support

Assists our Fundraising Staff with event preparation (follow up calls, photocopying, mailings) during our busy event seasons. This commitment is 2-3 hours per week during business hours.

Holiday Hamper Volunteers

Assist us in our busiest season, Holiday Hamper, this is a program that allows us to get wish lists from the women sponsored by members of the community. We need volunteers to assist us with sorting donations, preparing hampers and gift wrapping items for the women.

Drivers

During our busy holiday hamper and event seasons we occasionally require drivers to assist us with pick ups.

Specialty Volunteers

If you have a special skill that you think the women could benefit from please let us know. In the past we have had volunteers provide yoga sessions, reiki, cooking classes, cake decorating and financial planning to name a few. We are always looking for ways to empower the women staying with us so if you have an idea please call us to discuss.
