Legacy Giving

For 45 years, Halton Women’s Place has provided safe emergency services for abused women and their dependent children in the Region of Halton. Today, we have 2 shelters providing 52 beds on a daily basis in addition to a 24/7 Crisis, Information and Support Line, an Online Chat, Community Outreach Programs, Transitional Housing Support, Court Support and Public Education & Advocacy Programs.
Our mission is to provide a safe haven, information,
and education to support a future without abuse for women and their children.
Your legacy gift will ensure that we can continue to be here for the women and children who need us the most – today AND for many years to come. Your legacy gift will ensure that we can continue to advocate and support survivors of gender-based violence.
We know it is important to you to take care of your family first. We hope that you may also consider helping other families as well. We hope you can leave a legacy gift that will support women and children who will need shelter, support and resources to begin new lives free from violence and abuse.

You can leave your legacy in a variety of ways including:

Bequests: A gift in your Will

There are several ways to make contributions through your will. You can instruct your lawyer to include “Embrave Agency to End Violence” (our legal name) in your will.

These are two examples of wording. For a residual bequest:

“I give to Halton Women’s Place to End Violence currently of 2211 Brant Street, #20060
Burlington, ON L7P 0A4 all (or _______ %) of the residue of my estate, to be used at the discretion of the organization.”

For a specific bequest (a specified dollar amount):

“I give to Halton Women’s Place to End Violence currently of 2211 Brant Street, #20060
Burlington, ON L7P 0A4, the sum of $ _______ to be used at the discretion of the organization.”

Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) /Registered Retirement Income Plan (RRIF) / Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSA)

Donating unused or excess assets in an RRSP, RRIF or TFSA to Halton Women’s Place can enable you to realize an immediate impact without triggering the tax, provided that the donation is carefully planned.

Life Insurance

The flexibility of life insurance makes it possible for virtually everyone to make a meaningful gift. You could:

Give a Percentage of your Life insurance policy to ‘Halton Women’s Place’

Give a Paid-Up Policy: Most people own life insurance, and many have policies that have outlived their original purpose. For instance, policies for a college education, those insuring a business, or those protecting a mortgage, can make excellent gifts when given to a charitable organization. The donor can deduct the replacement value of the policy.

Buy a New Policy: Some people find they can make a much larger gift than they could otherwise afford by purchasing a life insurance policy and naming Halton Women’s Place as owner and beneficiary. The future premiums paid are deductible as cash contributions.

Buy Insurance to Replace a Bequest: Some people find they can make a current gift of assets they had planned to bequeath in their wills. They receive the income-tax benefits now and replace the assets by buying a life insurance policy for that amount. They enjoy the satisfaction of giving now and receiving the tax deduction now when they need it most. The beneficiaries will still receive the same amount.

Add a Beneficiary: Regardless of financial circumstances, almost anyone can name Halton Women’s Place as a secondary or final beneficiary of a new or existing policy. This simply means that if the first beneficiary(ies) predeceases you, our organization becomes the beneficiary. Because the gift is not definite, there are no income tax benefits; but, if any funds do finally go to Halton Women’s Place, they will be deductible from taxes.

Real Estate and Property

Please consider making a gift of real estate. Halton Women’s Place is the ONLY women’s shelter in the Region and will ensure these assets serve our community and survivors in their path to safety.

The needs of communities across Halton Region for safe, emergency shelter are greater than ever. Please contact Carm Bozzo to explore how we can work together to build your legacy with gifts of real estate and property.
