Holiday Giving

For many families, the holidays are a difficult time.
They are especially difficult for our clients at Halton Women’s Place.

For many families, the holidays are a difficult time.
They are especially difficult for our clients at Halton Women’s Place.

Our Holiday Giving Program is a great way for YOU -the community- to support the many women and children who have used shelter services in the past year and who are spending their first holiday on their own. The choice to leave an abusive home may bring many challenges including, lower income, lack of affordable housing, and loss of family traditions. These challenges are amplified during the holidays. At Halton Women’s Place we do our best to ensure that all women and children enjoy the holidays.

There are a number of ways to give to Halton Women’s Place this holiday season!
No matter which option you choose, your donation will make a big impact on our shelters and our clients.

Gift Card Collection
Gift cards are more than just gift cards at HWP – They help our clients feel empowered and allow them to purchase the items and experiences they are in need of. Collecting gift cards of any denomination for both the women and teens who use our services is a wonderful gift, and contributes to hampers we create in-house for clients that arrive past the deadline to sponsor.

Suggestions include: Grocery store, Walmart, Cineplex, Teen-related stores or fast food restaurants, Tim Hortons.

Welcome Baskets for Children:

When our young clients arrive at the shelter with their mother, we gift them with a Welcome Basket that includes a new book and new stuffed animal. By purchasing new books and stuffed animals for these Welcome Baskets, your donation will continue to give throughout not only the holiday season, but all year round!

Suggestions include: Stuffed animals, Children’s books, Novels for 9-12 years, Novels for Teens.

Child & Youth Program Supplies:

Fifty percent of the clients in our shelters are children of all ages, and we have fantastic Child & Youth Counsellors who work with our young clients to provide them with recreational and therapeutic activities. By purchasing supplies for our Child & Youth program, your donation will continue to give well beyond the holiday season!

Suggestions include: Board games, Arts & Crafts supplies, School supplies
